The number of tests marked as urgent should be restricted to the minimum, as the efficiency of the whole laboratory will be affected if the service is misused.
If test results are required urgently please contact the laboratory concerned and speak with a Senior Scientist or Pathologist. Direct communication greatly assists with prioritisation of testing.
The specimen container is to be placed in a red specimen bag and where possible delivered directly to Pathology reception.
Note: The word 'urgent' placed on the request form is not adequate to guarantee urgent attention.
