BLOOD AND BONE MARROW AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

Lithium Heparin tube with gel can be accepted provided that it is not centrifuged.  Please note that this is not the preferred container.

FLUIDS IN STERILE CONTAINER  AT 4oC

CSF IN STERILE TUBE AT 4oC. (Sample tubes received after 5pm Mon-Fri or on weekends and public holidays should be topped up with RPMI by microbiology scientist. Note that this is only for Flow Cytometry (FLOW) requests.  All other Immunology procedures require neat CSF.)

TISSUE IN RPMI OR STERILE SALINE AT 4oC

Samples need to be processed on the day of collection. Red bag at point of collection and transport to Specimen Reception ASAP.

Samples received after hours (i.e. after 5pm Mon-Fri or on weekends and public holidays) should be registered and stored at the appropriate temperatures above.
